But if I'm not indulging in homemade, or a dairy-free market pint, I'm treading lightly to Mashti Malone's Ice Cream. Sometimes a frozen banana pureed with cacao powder is all the sugar I can handle. At the end of the day, sugar is sugar and we're all responsible for how much we consume. (20 years ago an ice cream shop got me researching spices for health.) Point is, they took ice, sugar and milk and evolved them into something more flavorful and less like a carnival sugar rush that leaves you dehydrated. They used to have this little info poster on why rosewater is good for you and spices like cardamom and saffron. But I will drive 30 miles for Saffron Rosewater and Pistachio at Mashti's. People talk about eating locally, and biking over driving to reduce our carbon footprint.
